We were recently treated to an afternoon of decadence and creativity at the InterContinental Singapore’s Lobby Lounge where we experienced the Whimsical Afternoon Tea. It was all sorts of wow and wonderful and a delightful continuation of the hotel’s first ever Easter Big Brunch themed “The Whimsical Wonderland” if you missed it earlier.
As you arrive at the transformed lounge, accented by a pastoral idyll, your eyes are immediately drawn to the three-tiered offering of sweet and savoury delights that is a result of the team’s boundless energy and creativity.
You don’t need a sweet tooth to be impressed by masterpieces that are almost too beautiful or whimsical to be eaten. One of the highlights that we are besotted with is the Poison Mushroom – a carrot cake ‘shroom’ that spouts from an adorable base of chocolate pot filled with cassis marmalade and creamy yoghurt mousse. This afternoon tea keeps the good moves comin’, cue Chess Checkers – a coffee-flavoured almond Joconde sponge, topped with delicate pieces of chocolate checkerboards. And just when you think macarons are far too ordinary for a calorie surplus, The Clock – a refreshing calamansi lime and salted sour plum macaron with the hands of time – opens up your palate for more of what’s to come.
The theme of colourful and inspired flavours continue on the second tier with a variety of savoury treats, with standouts such as the Baked Chilli Jumbo Lump Crab, Smoked Salmon Quiche that comes in a flaky tart shell and even a Duck Foie Gras Parfait topped with fresh strawberries.
The warm house-made Plain English Buttermilk Scones and Organic Pecan Scones served with delicious Caramel Milk Jam, lashings of Devonshire Clotted Cream and Strawberry Preserves left us scraping the bottom of the dish.
The afternoon is complemented by two beverages of fine loose-leaf tea or coffee, along with unlimited ice cream.
Aside from tea or coffee, guests also have the option to level up, for a little extra, with a flute of Taittinger Brut Champagne, Copenhagen Sparkling Tea (alcoholic and non- alcoholic) or Heritage TWG-Infused Cocktail.
